PWR-Performance Stage II Rhino Cooling System
All aluminum construction, enhanced flow for 30% more cooling capacity.

Update: 9/24/08 - Still running the PWR in our Rhino with not one problem. Infact I have yet to have seen the temp light come on since I installed this kit. Pretty satisfied with its performance

Introduction:

With the hot summer temperatures just around the corner we figured it was time to prepare our Rhino for a blazing hot summer of riding. Were located in Southern California and although 85% of our riding is around 5000 Ft. elevation were the air is generally cooler we'll have plenty of trips down to the desert were the sun get well into the low 100's. We've read posts online about the stock radiator not providing enough cooling in extreme temperatures like this. Although we do have a "dummy" temperature light as we like to call it, its still not good on the engine. Besides if that over heating temp light fails to turn on we'd have no idea were cooking our engine. At which point when it does become apparent the engine could already be damaged or possible seized. Ok have I stressed enough about the importance of cooling? None the less its not worth taking the chance so we did some research on the PWR kits these desert racers are running in there Rhino's. I figured if there durable enough to withstand desert racing for 250 miles im sure they can handle what we plan to dish out.

PWR offers a Stage I kit and a Stage II kit depending on how much cooling your looking for. To ensure our rhino maintains cooler operating temperatures we decided to go with the Stage II kit also known as the "Ultimate Cooling Package" as PWR typically refers to the there stage II rhino kit. Both kits are reasonably priced and provide plenty of more cooling over stock.

Installation:
T
his newly designed race proven cooling kit features an all aluminum full replacement radiator with a 9" high output cooling fan. The radiator is custom made with a unique air reed shroud that features dual air flaps. Both of these items replace the factory units. The oil cooler provides a 100% larger capacity 23-row cooler for added cooling and more oil capacity. The combined package is said to provide up to 40 degrees lower temperatures over the stock components.

The PWR-Performance Ultimate Cooling Kit was pretty straight forward to easy to install. There are a few little things needed to slide the old radiator out like taking the passenger-side shock off. This allows for the radiator to slide out and make room for the new performance aluminum one. When comparing the radiators side by side it was clear they were two different animals. Not only did the PWR one "look" better but its overall design and construction made our factory one look pretty insignificant. The new air reed fins allow our radiator to adjust air flow depending on driving speeds. As we go faster these extra fins open and allow more air to pass through for even more cooling. The complete stage II kit took about 3 hours to install and that includes test driving and topping off the fluids.

Product Testing
After installing the stage II cooling kit we as usual took the Rhino out for a test drive. This is important because we needed to make sure all the air pockets are out of the radiator and engine oil cooling system. Once our engine reached operating temperature we let it cool off a bit and then re-checked the fluid levels. A little engine oil and cooling fluid was added to top them off.

We've had the opportunity to test our Rhino in some reasonable warm temperatures these past couple weeks. Desert temperatures have been reaching the 90's so we headed down for what felt like an early summer ride. The entire day we kept glancing over to see if the temp light would come on. Not once all day so that's a good sign. Also every time we stopped id peak my head under the hood to see what our radiator cap temperature gauge was reading. Seemed to be keeping the temperatures considerably lower than what the stock radiator like to maintain. So it looks like its going to work well this summer, check back with us with some final results shortly after summer ends.

Conclusion:
We especially liked working with staff (Brandon & Charles) at PWR on this review. They provided us with detailed documentation about there kits as well as took the time to tell us the benefits of running both Stage I and Stage II kits over stock. For more information contact PWR-Performance.
