TRAIL ARMOR
RHINO DUST REDUCER KIT
|
Product Overview:
| The Yamaha Rhino UTV has become so popular for a wide variety or users not only for work like I think yamaha had intended this machine to be originally built for. But for pleasure in all conditions. In turn the use of this utility vehicle offroad has become more popular and the aftermarket industry enhances and redesigns features on the rhino to fit the consumers needs. In this case Trail Armor recently came out with a kit they call the Dust Reducer kit. What does it do you ask... I hope everyone has figured this part out. It does just what there called, reduces dust. How they work, follow a long. |
|
The kit includes 6 custom plastic cut outs and all the necessary hardware for installation.

|
| After several trail runs in our local mountains we noticed a lot of fine dust was making its way between the cab and bed during trail riding. Yamaha overlooked this small detail. The dust comes in between the bed and cab and eventually everything really dusty including a fine layer inside the bed and around our Desert Traxxz bag. Don't get me wrong, I love playing in the dirt and don't mind getting a dusty but if there is a inexpensive way to reduce some of this extra dust blasting my digital camera and everything else I am interested. |
| Trail Armor has taken the time to outline and find these opening on the rhino were dust is traveling. They then made custom black plastic shield that outline factory components on the rhino for a tight custom fit with little or no gaps. made these custom plastic sheets that outline the components on your rhino |

| Installing the dust reducer kit took more time than I anticipated. The kit is pretty extensive and covers not only between the cab and bed but also has a complete shield for under the drivers seat along with driver side and passenger side shields that go between the rear tires and engine blocking dust from going to the engine compartment. Total installation took about 1.5 hours and required a drill, 3/16 & 1/4 drill bits, and a medium size phillips drive for screwing in the self taping screws in. See pictures below showing some of the dust reducer panels mounted in place. |
| These panels were pretty easy to install. The rear long panel that extends along the front of the bed took the most time because it required drilling some holes in the lip on the top of the bed. We used our 12 volt cordless drill and a permanent marker to mark and drill the holes. The factory metal is thin gauge steel and doesn't take much to drill. The plastic dust shield mounts with the same style mounting hardware as the factory bed sides and along most of the panels that hold the rhino's plastic on. This gives the dust reducer kit a factory appearance and if you didn't know they were added most people wouldn't even notice them. |
| The dust shield under the drivers seat was a nice tight fit leaving no room for dust to enter. I especially like this panel because I keep a small air compressor in a bag under there with a few other tools that I would rather not be subjected to extensive dust and weathering. Mounting that panel consisted of several self taping screws that install in minutes. Trail Armor also includes another small dust shield for under the seat. It fits at the back of the seat area under the 1x1 seat frame. Both of these dust shield definitely reduced the amount of dust that was coming into that compartment. The rest of the panels were installed in just a few minutes and when it was all said and done you really couldn't notice the new panels unless you really knew what to look for. I especially like this because products like these are meant to look factory and not added. See pictures below to see the different dust panels in place and mounting hardware. |

More Installation & Conclusion:
| Now that our Trail Armor dust reducers have been installed we have had the opportunity to test these dust reducers out on the trails. By the end of our 3-hour ride I noticed a significantly less dust behind the seats and around our Desert Traxxz bag were it usually gets pretty dusted. I noticed there wasn't the usually light dusting coming from the back of us while riding. In some places were we ride it gets pretty powdery from high traffic trails and this dust usually clouds up a little bit behind us. The under seat compartment was also much cleaner and didn't look like a tornado went by like it usually does. |
