aFe Intake
Performance Rhino Intake kit!!

Product Overview:
B
ack to squeezing more power out of our 660cc Rhino. This time im adding aFe's new performance intake kit they recently released into the Rhino Market. With aFe's knowledge and skill for increasing intake flow in there automotive division, I expect the Rhino kit wont be anything short of performance! Well at least well engineered and designed they did manage to squeeze a Dyno proven 2.57hp more out of a 660 Rhino. Thats pretty good if you take into consideration the 660cc powerplant produces around 20hp stock. Now onto the install, All this talk has me curious to see what the results feel like.

69% CFM INCREASE

Install:
I'll keep the installation description brief on this Product Review. It's pretty straight forward so i'll refrain from boring you with the details. All your really interested in is the results anyways... right? but you'll have to wait.

The installation took approximately 1-hour and consisted of removing the seats and center section to expose the subject. Next I removed the entire air filter system from the carburetor. That includes the factory lid, box, filter, and rubber grommet connecting the air box to the carburetor. Although not instructed to do so, now was an excellent time to change the main jet. I installed a 200 for initial testing, aFe recommends a 205 at sea level but that isn't the case. I'm located about 5500ft. elevation so I adjusted slightly. (some fine tuning will likely be required)

Ok, so now it was time to start putting things in. Simply install the new aFe system into the factory box's location. Part of the installation includes having to relocate the crankcase breather tube and route it into the pre-drilled air box opening (driver-side). Another tube running from the passenger-side of the carb was previously routed to a plastic canister on top of the stock intake system. This hose is discarded and a new supplied hose takes its place. Again re-routing the hose through a pre-drilled opening on the backside of the airbox (passenger-side). It's connection point is just in front of the main air filter. Final step was to install the BIG ProGaurd air filter. Once everything was installed properly it was time to put the engine cover on and install the new aluminum intake scoop and filter.

Testing:
After a fairly quick installation the sun was just starting to go down and it was too late to load it on the trailer and take it out for some trail testing. Guess a road test will do. So I cranked it over and it fired right up. As it sat there idling I noticed the intake sound was much different than before. It seemed much deeper and louder than stock. In fact it was a little louder than a hardstyle kit too.

So on with the testing, I ended up driving around for about 30 minutes on some mountain roads. Some mini drag's here and there feeling out the power differences. First thing I noticed was an immediate throttle response and torque increase off the line. I could feel a difference the second I stepped on the gas, definitely a little peppier. During zero to top speed acceleration testing I could feel a noticeable increase throughout the entire power curve. The difference as best as I could describe it was equivalent to having been driving around with your foot slightly on the brake (stock) and then taking your foot off the brake (aFe). Sorry, not a very good description but put it this way. The gain was more noticeable than the Performance CDI & Coil combined!

Dyno Proven Results!

Evaluation:
As mentioned above, this kit added a nice increase in power through the entire power curve. I also like the fact that its a 98% enclosed system unlike the hardstyle kits that are often ran without a lid. All rhino owners know the undercarriage of a rhino cycles dust and silt like a tornado through the engine compartment. Without the lid I was cleaning my air filter waaay more often. All around I was pleased with the quality and craftsmanship put into the aFe kit. Does it live up to my expectation? Yes it does!
