Accutronix Rhino Billet
Front & Rear Frame Reinforcement Kits
|
Introduction
Accutronix offers a wide variety of billet products to outfit your Rhino or RZR UTV's. In fact there's just too many for us to list, I will however be telling you about there front and rear frame reinforcement kits since we picked up a set for our Project Rhino. Designed to reinforce the stock frame mounts were the a-arms bolt through the frame mounts as well as acting like a truss plate to prevent frame deflection. The majority of the pieces are constructed out of 1/4"-inch thick aluminum with some 1/2"-inch thick pieces used on the front. If you haven't already noticed these kits also give a little bling factor as well. The bling is great but were most interested in the strengthening aspect since i've heard and seen some horrible frame failures where the a-arms tear the frame eyelets out. We must be getting lucky because ours has survived what I would consider some major abuse over the year without this failure. Looks like were covered now. Read on as we discuss more about these kits.

Why we chose Accutronix
What we liked about the Accutronix kits over some of the other similar kits on the market is the attention to detail. When I say attention to detail im referring to the kits contents which include not only the main front & rear frame truss but also individual machined plates and pieces that reinforce both sides of the a-arm mounting points. Combined these plates sandwiches the the a-arm mounts with a total of 1/2"-inch of aluminum plating. Thick stuff, and as you can imagine, this adds superior strength over kits that only add a truss plate on one side of the frame. On top of that each part is engraved with 'Left' or 'Right' making for an even easier installation (see the first two pictures below). Last but not least Accutronix replaces all the factory hardware with allen head stainless steel bolts, washers, and nylon locking nuts.

Installing the Kits
Rear - We started off by installing the rear kit since it looked the easiest. All the parts are marked with a left or right engraving so we separated each piece into its side. Im not going to bore you with the details of installing these kits because its pretty self explanatory as to were each piece goes or how its installed for that matter. I will however tip you off on a few notes to give you an idea what it took to install them along with any handy tips to get these kits installed faster. Let me start off by letting you know we used almost all air tools for this job. Since we were removing every bolt and nut from each a-arm it only seems logical to use the air assistance to help expedite the time consuming parts of the install.
We started by installing the primary rear frame truss before moving onto the inner plates. One tip I would recommend here is loosing all the a-arm bolts even if there not the ones being removed. I found that the combination loosening all bolts and jacking the rhino up off the ground made it easier to leverage and position the arms around when lining up the bolts.
The Rear Kit Installed

Front - The front kit installed similar to the rear but with a couple different style plates to install. The front kits has a similar front truss with a backing plate on the each side of the frame mount. The inner front a-arm mounts are were things get different. The plates on the inner arms feature pre-drilled and threaded machined pieces that bolt together with supplied stainless hardware and then slide over the frame mount like a cradle. (See picture below) Kind of hard to explain with words but the design appears to be very effective and well thought through. Also, these pieces are even more stout constructed of some big 1/2"-inch thick aluminum. Extra mounting points on this bracket as well. The cradle not only wraps around the frame securing the a-arm mount but also gets bolted to a section of the inner frame with two stainless bolts for even more support.
Front & Rear Install Notes - The installation part took a little longer than anticipated. Just for the simple fact that every bolt that was removed required some torquing to get them re-aligned so that the bolts would push through the new plates, the factory mounts, and a-arm bushings. These kits weren't to bad all in all but I would recommend anyone planning ahead to add these plates while your installing a long travel kit to make it even easier. Both front and rear kits took about 2-hrs total to complete with the assistance of a extra guy and air tools.

Bonus
Check out the rear plate we chose, it features a billet license plate mount that even has small white LED lights for you guys that can get your Rhino's legalized. For us California residents, the license plate mount will house our green sticker for now. Maybe one day we'll find a way to plate ours.
Conclusion
For a strictly bolt-on kit this setup seems like a well put together kit both front and rear. Definitly seems like it will provide tremendous strength over the the factory setup. To be honest both these kits looked like they required Accutronix to provide a lot of parts and hardware not to mention machining time, polishing and finish work. The first picture on this article shows just how many pieces make up there kits. Very thorough setup!
Now that our Rhino's frame and a-arm mounting points have been beefed up it makes me feel a little more at ease while were bombing through the desert or trails. I can only imagine the additional stress the stock frame gets with the leverage and power produced with the long travel kit. The truss design, extra plates and brackets with this kit leads me to believe our frame can endure a lot more abuse than before. For more information check out Accutronix's website. They've got tons of UTV aluminum parts for both style and function.
